A New Year, A New Direction

As you may have noticed, things have been a bit quiet here since the beginning of the year. It isn’t that I haven’t been busy creating, its that none of the projects are done yet! Also, I have been taking the time to really think about how I want to grow and develop in the coming year.

A very good friend of mine came to visit over New Years and she had some great advice on how to break out of current habits, and find new inspiration – with or without a muse. The main theme to her advice: Get OUT! Explore! Experience! Get away from the screen. (ironic that I’m typing this here, eh?)

So there you have it. I have been spending more of this year (so far) exploring and experiencing, reading and becoming more involved. So far, I’ve been to more museums and art galleries this month than I visited all of last year. I have met more creative people – in and out of the art world. I have a stack of new art books that I am devouring. Even older art books are seeing the light of day again. I have even resurrected a 52-week challenge on another forum where the artists there produce a new piece or an update to an ongoing piece each week. We critique, we offer up process advice and we cheer each other on. It has been very rewarding for everyone involved. You can follow my progress through the challenge on my tumblr account.

And, I am taking notes. I will be posting these notes here, in my new creator’s blog area, so you can follow along and I can keep my thoughts in order.

So here is to a brave new year! There is so much to learn and do and see. Let’s get this party started!
